Job Description

MaRS is seeking a project manger comfortable working in a complex, dynamic and fast-paced project that operates like a start-up to launch the initial and subsequent online platforms.

 

General Accountability
The project manager will provide day-to-day management and leadership for the development of the website and data management systems for the Regional Strategic Resource Centre (ReSRC) as well as other MaRS digital projects. The ReSRC project is sponsored by the Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation and works in conjunction with a number of MaRS departments, external partners and external suppliers.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

ReSRC and MaRS projects

  • Provide day-to-day project management and leadership on: the development of the website for ReSRC; data management, processing and integration systems and suppliers; other duties as required; and the MaRS website and other digital projects.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Digital Initiatives, who will provide guidance for managing digital projects within the MaRS environment. Also will work closely with the Program Director, ReSRC, who will provide subject-matter expertise in the area of the data program.
  • Work closely with the ReSRC program team and other internal clients to effectively assess and document requirements, obtain appropriate input and feedback on the key deliverables and ensure timely approvals.
  • Manage the project team’s requirements definition, RFP, contract management, acceptance testing and delivery processes for internally and externally delivered IT solutions including web sites, data hosting, cataloguing and management, database deployments and integration environments.
  • Create (in conjunction with vendors and the internal project team) and maintain project documentation including, but not limited to, project charter, requirements, design specifications, functional specifications, technical specifications to a schedule that delivers on the business requirements for the ReSRC or other MaRS digital projects.
  • Engage with, manage and lead vendors including: external consultants, contractors, suppliers and technology partners, web designers, developers, writers and quality assurance professionals to ensure timely completion of milestones throughout the systems lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities to further address the needs of the ReSRC program and improve the program management approach, online and offline product and the supporting data management and integration operations.
  • Contribute to the MaRS Communications digital team by documenting processes, ensuring adherence to standards; monitoring the ticketing system, assessing priorities and resourcing appropriate team members for tasks.
  • Provide quality assurance for all projects prior to promotion onto the MaRS public online environment.

Educational/Technical Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent and five years of relevant project management experience in the web and data management industry
  • Familiarity with the language and dynamics of different sectors including government, commercial and academic partners.
  • Strong capabilities in: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OmniPlan
  • Familiar with the “language” and terminology of web production, web communities and complex data integration projects
  • Highly developed analytical and interpretive skills, conceptual thinker, able to solve complex problems
