This accomplishment reflects a strong commitment to green design at the core of the firm’s practice.We are currently seeking a Sustainability Coordinator to join our Sustainability Planning+ Design Team. This particular full-time employment opportunity is located in our Richmond, Virginia office. A Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, or related subject is required. Work experience in design or construction industries preferred. Proficiency in LEED® Green Building Rating Systems (LEED-NC, LEED-EBOM, and LEED for Homes) and the desire to work as part of a project team a must. For the position of Sustainability Coordinator, the successful candidate will exhibit a keen desire to stay current with state of the art “sustainable” design and construction strategies, in all of our market sectors. Strong written and verbal communication skills are desired, along with the ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment with little oversight. Can-do attitude and enthusiasm are necessary as is strict attention to details, organization, and the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
This position will require relentless dedication to the following:
LEED project management – design phases
- Coordinate and conduct LEED orientation workshops for Owner
- Participate in design charrettes to promote high performance design alternatives
- Coordinate and conduct project team meetings during design to identify appropriate LEED objectives
- Prepare “Memorandum of Conference” documents for LEED meetings
- Register projects with GBCI and prepare general project information
- Assist in selection of commissioning agent, acoustical consultants, and others depending on project
- Research products, technologies, and credit approaches; share knowledge between project teams
- Develop/prepare Owner-specific LEED documentation (OPR, recycling, IAQ management plans)
- Assist project team members in developing/preparing discipline-specific LEED documentation
- Collaborate with Project Manager to ensure that LEED deadlines are met and proper coordination between team members occurs for prerequisites and applicable credits
- Review documentation provided by project team members prior to submission to GBCI
- Review and edit specifications for adherence to LEED objectives
- Maintain organization of documentation
- Administer the LEED application process using LEEDonline, serve as liaison to GBCI for team member questions, CIRs, and review comments
LEED project management – construction phase
- Attend pre-bid conference to explain LEED requirements to potential bidders
- Attend pre-construction conference to develop LEED strategies with awarded Contractor
- Conduct site visits to monitor GC compliance with LEED objectives
- Attend construction progress meetings to monitor GC compliance with LEED objectives
- Review LEED construction submittals and Contractor’s LEEDonline updates
- Prepare site visit reports, maintain and communicate “issues” log
- Review documentation provided by general contractor/subcontractors and commissioning agent prior to submission to GBCI
- Maintain organization of documentation
- Administer the LEED application process using LEEDonline, serve as liaison to GBCI for team member questions, CIRs and review comments
Maintenance of institutional knowledge-base
- Develop tools, example documentation and templates to make LEED process easier and more efficient for each team member
- Keep current with USGBC and GBCI rating system & credentialing changes
- Provide resources for staff seeking to earn or maintain LEED credentials
- Maintain and improve organization of reference materials for ease of access
- Share and discuss new findings with sustainability team through e-mails and monthly meetings (as well as Intranet articles for whole firm when appropriate)
Marketing
- Develop “green” marketing materials when needed/requested (ex. RFQ’s, mailers, press releases)
- Coordinate with Client Services to provide information for LEED project sheets and keep current
- Prepare materials for, and set up displays at, conferences/events
- Develop presentations and lead tours for events
- Assist with proposal development as needed for projects with sustainability goals
Research
- Gather project energy, water, and post-occupancy comfort/health data for cost and benefit studies
- Coordinate post-occupancy survey implementation
- Organize and analyze energy and water data
- Analyze current green building cost/benefit studies
Office-wide sustainability
- Participate in studio meetings to identify projects with potential LEED or sustainability objectives
- Assist with use of Sustainability Checklists as requested by Project Managers
- Promote office-wide awareness of environmental issues and initiatives
- Assist in the development of company-wide sustainability initiatives/policies
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend job interviews, on an as needed basis
- Deliver public presentations, on an as needed basis
- Participate in planning studies
- Identify technical issues and establish a “Moseley approach” to solving them
- Assist in training/mentoring for sustainability coordinators
- Facilitate learning opportunities with consulting firms
This position at Moseley Architects requires operation of a motor vehicle. You must present and maintain a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record acceptable to our firm’s liability insurance carrier.Top salary and benefits package.
