Program/Department: Shared Services including Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations and Administrative Services.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to the CEO

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide vision and leadership to enhance the effectiveness and impact of all Synergos programs and activities by overseeing all of the organization’s support services functions globally
  • Serves as the senior finance officer, oversees budget development and monitoring, fiscal management and information systems, financial planning, accounting control systems and cash management, investments and any issues of taxation
  • Leads audit preparations and manage ongoing relationship with auditors to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Provide accurate, timely and useful financial information to ensure programmatic units can carry out their responsibilities effectively
  • Ensures that systems, policies and procedures are in place to appropriately monitor and grow the organization’s resources
  • Develops HR policies, programs, compensation and benefit plans that contributes to a high performance, values-based culture
  • Lead efforts to recruit, develop and assess staff that positions Synergos as an employer of choice
  • Establishes and maintains efficient and client-serving information technology to support all Synergos programs and activities, including the choices of hardware, software and information and knowledge management systems
  • Supervises staff and contractors responsible for purchasing, property management, contracting, insurance and legal issues
  • Provides policy and systems advice and counsel to the CEO, senior management, Board Treasurer and Chair and Members of the Finance, Audit and Investment Committees/Subcommittees of the Board
  • Serves as a member of the senior leadership team at Synergos, providing advice and counsel about all organizational issues of, strategy, goals, policies and practices
  • Provides coaching, mentoring and management for members of the Finance, HR and IT staffs
  • Promotes and models Synergos values
  • Renders other valuable service to the organization as appropriate

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree is required. Master’s degree in Finance or equivalent degree is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of “hands on” leadership that includes at least five years experience directing a finance and other relevant functions
  • Sophisticated knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles as relevant to international nonprofit entities, including grants management and government contract administration
  • Acumen in maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for informational, auditing and operational use
  • Knowledge of financial markets
  • Outstanding abilities to develop and implement strategies, manage and mentor staff, manage complex initiatives and oversee budgets, planning financial management and administrative services
  • A deep understanding of how to conceptualize, frame and carry out complex and system-changing human resources and organizational development activities
  • An intimate knowledge of diverse cultures, some experience working with colleagues outside the US and with managing field offices preferred
  • A sophisticated understanding of information technology, including a deep understanding of how to match organizational needs with efficient and effective systems
  • Some experience establishing and overseeing knowledge management systems
  • Demonstrated capacity to model the highest ethical standards and to support Synergos’ core values
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with excellent written, verbal communication skills; a client service orientation and good listening skills
  • Someone who understands and practices high level customer service, meeting or exceeding client requirements
