Job Description
The Principles for Responsible Investment is an investor initiative in partnership with UNEP Finance Initiative and the UN Global Compact. Launched by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, the PRI is a set of voluntary best practice principles to assist investors in integrating environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues into investment processes and ownership practices. The principles are supported by a Secretariat that promotes the PRI and provides implementation support to signatories.
PRI is taking next steps in setting up a local Network in North America. The objective of this network is to assist US and Canada signatories with implementing the Principles, support the integration of ESG into investment processes across all asset classes, provide support for coordinating collaborative shareholder engagements in North America and support outreach and recruitment of new signatories. This program will focus on ESG priorities identified by North American PRI signatories, while leveraging PRI’s global network and community of practice.
This is a six-month position initially (with possibility of extension depending on performance). It is ideally suited for a mid level professional or a recent graduate with relevant work experience who is passionate about working in the responsible investment area, but different types of profiles will be considered if relevant. This position will provide the successful candidate a solid position in the field of responsible investment, a broad range of contacts, knowledge of the many environmental, social and governance issues relevant to investors, and the opportunity to develop a range of useful skills relevant to the field. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between North American signatories and other signatories in the world. This position will involve occasional travel.
Core responsibilities:
- Establish and set up the PRI North America Network
- Develop and help shape agenda for the PRI North America network, including best practice development and dissemination, shareholder collaboration, and other relevant activities
- Facilitate coordination and activities of the PRI North America network
- Liaise with local signatories and develop strong working relationships
- Support new signatory recruitment in North America
- Develop relationships with other organisations in the responsible investment,institutional investment and capital markets world to ensure PRI’s work is complementary to existing initiatives.
- Attend, represent and speak on behalf of PRI at various events
- Assist the Strategic Development team and other members of the PRI team when necessary.
- Act as a liaison between North America and the rest of the PRI community
Responsibilities may include any or all of the following:
- Manage, develop, maintain and institutionalise quality relationships with investors and other organisations.
- Support the local working groups work with ESG insights and research
- Organizing local PRI events and/or Signatory Workshops
- Leading recruitment meetings and PRI presentation to potential signatories
- Representing PRI in key local conferences and RI related forums
- Manage email correspondence, conference calls, meetings and events involving PRI Signatories and other stakeholders
- Prepare agendas, minutes and progress updates
- Manage PRI intranet and databases
Requirements:
- Ability to learn quickly and to get ‘up to speed’ within a short time
- Over 5 years relevant work experience, preferably in e capital markets and finance.
- Degree in a PRI-related field (finance, economics, business administration,responsible investment, law)
- Full time commitment (flexibility is possible during the week)
- Not a 9-5 job – the odd hour conference call is sometimes necessary when workingwithin a global organisation.
- Strong interest in responsible investment and environmental, social, governance issues in general
- High-level written and spoken English, other languages highly desired
- Confidence to relate to and interact with senior investment professionals
- Well organised and reliable
- Ability to complete tasks without constant supervision
- Diplomacy, tact, and the ability to get on with people and fit into a team culture
- Ability to work autonomously as part of a London anchored and globally growing entity
- Fluent with a range of IT and Internet tools
