BrightSource Energy, Inc., headquartered in Oakland California, develop , designs and builds large scale solar energy plants. We are seeking an experienced Director,  Environmental  Affairs to join our team. General Description

 

This position is focused on the environmental permitting, and compliance aspects of new and existing project sites to ready for construction/operation to fulfill the company’s investment and development plans. The position includes the supervision of consultants and staff in the definition of priorities and the establishment of goals and the development of compliance/ permitting strategies. These responsibilities include creating mitigation strategies in regards to protected/endangered species found on site.    This position will coordinate with in-house disciplines such as project development, land management, and legal.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Skills & Experience

College degree or equivalent work experience required, advanced environmental science degree preferred.

Minimum of 10 years of professional environmental experience in infrastructure projects, preferably power project development.  Strong leadership capabilities, consensus building skills, large project development and strategic planning experience.

Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with personnel at all levels in the organization; must possess top level business management, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.

Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.

Effective organization skills including the ability to prioritize and plan work.

Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.

Excellent strategic planning and execution skills.

Demonstrated contracting, negotiating, and change management capabilities.

Ability to motivate people to produce quality materials within tight timeframes.

Demonstrated success simultaneously managing several projects.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Manage all environmental aspects of new site development.  Lead the preparation of environmental fatal flaw analysis.

Manage internal and external resources in the preparation of initial field surveys, permit acquisition strategies and mitigation programs.

In coordination with the project developers, manage the permitting process for development projects including leading BSE efforts with agencies such as the CEC and BLM as well as manage the post-permitting/pre-construction agency process.

Manage construction environmental compliance for projects under construction.

Provide management and guidance to the internal permitting/compliance team assigned to advanced development and construction projects.

Minimal travel to locations as required

May support other executives as needed.

Performs other duties as may be determined from time to time.
