Job Description
Part time internship opportunity for a dedicated individual, passionate about the intersection of business and sustainability, and hands on sustainability efforts in the meeting and hospitality industry. The Sustainability Coordinator is part of the Operational Team, along with the Conference Operations Coordinator, Customer Service and Admin Assistant and the Faculty Coordinator. The team is headed up by the Executive Producer. We have a very flat structure at SLM and focus on collaborative efforts and high-performance individuals to reach our goals. Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the sustainability aspects and efforts of the SB’12 Conference from start to finish
- Build on existing efforts – provide ideas to go further and see the ideas through to implementation
- Recruit and Coordinate a team of ‘Sustainability Volunteers’ to assist in planning and execution on site
- Coordinate directly with hotel and venue staff to implement sustainability efforts – provide training where needed
- Work directly with the waste hauler and other infrastructure stakeholders at the venue, likely to include the City of San Diego and Convention Bureau as well as our own Recycling or Zero Waste sponsor.
Who you are:
- Passionate about sustainable operations in the meeting and hospitality industry
- Ideally experience from one of the two, and good insight on feasible sustainability programs for the hospitality and meeting industry
- Good technical skills; fluent with Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- People-person with the ability to collaborate with and consider the needs of multiple stakeholders
- Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple ongoing projects in a fast paced team environment
- Ability to work independently on projects and collaborate as a strong team member
- Excellent project management skills
- Ideally a Sustainable MBA Graduate

March through June 2012.
Hours:
Part time internship position based in our San Francisco office. 24/7 availability required from June 3 -8th for the Sustainable Brands Conference.

You will work with a supervisor very passionate about ‘walking the talk’ and achieve great results to use as a leading example.
