Right now, natural gas companies are beginning to use a dangerous new mining process called deep well hydro-fracking here in Michigan. This process involves drilling 2 miles underground, and injecting millions of gallons of water and hundreds of toxic chemicals in order to obtain natural gas. In other states, we’ve seen hydro-fracking directly linked with drinking water contamination. We don’t want that same contamination in our water, or the Great Lakes! Clean Water Action is an organization with over 255,000 members in Michigan working to empower people to take action to protect America’s waters, build healthy communities and to make democracy work for all of us. For 40 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation’s most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing, expert policy research and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public.

As an intern, you would organize communities around environmental issues. Responsibilities include one-on-one communication, fundraising, dispersing information, and good record keeping.

We look for candidates who have strong oral and written communication skills, and who possess good attention to detail. Candidates should have an interest in working to protect our environment. We do provide extensive training on the job responsibilities and on the issues we cover.

The hours for the work are from 2pm to 10:30pm, Monday through Friday, or at least 3 days a week between Monday and Friday. Pay for full time is $375+ per week. We are hiring for part-time student positions for the fall semester or long term work. We provide benefits, travel opportunities, and the potential for growth within the organization.
