A Communications Events Steward Who Supports Social Change

As the first organization of its kind, CXC (Center for Transformative Change) is the only national center entirely dedicated to bridging the inner and outer lives of social change agents, activists and allies to create a more effective, more sustainable social justice movement. By directly impacting the culture of movements for social justice, we are “changing the WAY change is done.”
Who We’re Looking For:
While, we’re looking for a fantastic communications person–someone with 2-5 years communications experience and who knows how to bridge social networking with just plan old networking–we also want someone who will support what we stand for. In other words, we want to work with someone who’s committed to social justice and who has the willingness to engage a unique, vision-based, multi-faceted approach to systemic change.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Two to five years relevant work experience in communications, online marketing, events
- management, promotions, public relations, new media, graphic design, advocacy, campaigns
- Familiarity with working with start-up and/or growth organizations especially valued
- Committed to social justice and willing to engage a multi-faceted approach to systemic change
- Abiding interest in supporting CXCfs mission
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communications (55%)
- Create and send organizational communications via email and occasional print
- Support ED in ongoing relationships with partner/ally organizations
- Build organizational brand awareness
- Develop and update organizational templates (i.e., board/staff bios, history, theories of change,
- etc.)
- Provide input on and implement communications components of strategic plan
- Media and Content Management (25%)
- Input and maintenance of website content
- Basic Media Production (print, audio, and video)
- Organizing and management of CXC media library (photo, audio and video)
- Develop and maintain social networking outlets
- Work with Media Steward on relevant projects, including journal
- Special Events and Rental Promotion (20%)
- CXC-based Event coordination (i.e., retreat, workshop, special events; working closely with
- Hospitality Steward and Facilities Manager)
- Build and manage major annual event (‘a-thon’) that includes both significant national and locallybased
- components (potential exists to expand 0.5 FTE to 1.0 FTE for annual event)
- Promote availability of space for rent
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent project management, follow-through, and time management skills
- Demonstrated superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience
- Be strategic: Be able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the
- most appropriate one
- Able to prioritize multiple tasks
- Highly developed reasoning and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop systems and solutions in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Macintosh and Internet savvy
- Working knowledge of basic web design and content management (Dreamweaver, Rapidweaver,
- iWeb, FTP, iDisk, WordPress, Google Apps, Docs & Calendar and/or equivalents)
- Working knowledge of current and emerging web-based marketing strategies, and social marketing
- technologies with ability to research, recommend, learn, and apply new technologies (email
- broadcasting, Facebook, Twitter, GoogleAds, etc.)
- Experience with content management systems and online applications (Drupal CMS, Google/Yahoo
- groups, etc.)
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver)
- Knowledge of Apple alternative design/office suite (iLife – iPhoto, Pages, Keynote)
- Basic video and audio editing software skills (iMovie, Final Cut, Studio, Audacity, Soundsoap, or
- equivalents) and experience implementing graphics, video, and audio on the web (YouTube, iTunes,
- Vimeo, etc.)
- Familiarly with email broadcasting and online communications tools

- Familiarity of SEO standards
- Ability to create and edit images using Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
- Installation and editing of online software applications (PHP/mySQL, WHM, cPanel,
- Familiarity of progressive/activist community a plus
- Familiarity of meditation/yoga/socially-engaged spiritual community a plus
