Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will be responsible for continuing development of a new program in Sustainable Sciences – focusing on alternative energy applications and solutions. This will include but not be limited to teaching lower division and upper division courses in multiple areas of Energy, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource & Environmental Management, Natural Science, and/or Engineering.

The position will be responsible for development of new curriculum, performing related work activities including, but not limited to:

advising and counseling students;

assisting in campus-related activities;

participating in faculty/administrative committees, community service, and in-service training;

maintaining an approved program of professional self-improvement;

collecting data and preparing reports (such as Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews);

preparing/adapting/revising Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment strategies for all courses;

independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments.

Must participate in professional development activities. May include assignments involving distance education, evening, weekend, and outreach, (e.g. Moloka’i, Lana’i, and Hana) classes may be assigned as part of regular workload.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor, CC: An earned doctorate in Engineering, Natural Science, Natural Resources and Environmental Management or related field from an accredited institution, plus five (5) years of effective performance at the Instructor level, or equivalent, which includes experience in curriculum development. Instructor, CC: An earned doctorate in Engineering, Natural Science, Natural Resources and Environmental Management or related field from an accredited institution.

Desirable Qualifications:

Assistant Professor, CC: Evidence of high quality teaching and potential for conducting relevant scholarly and applied research. Proven work experience in Alternative Energy or Sustainable Sciences. Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting. Experience in teaching and working with highly diverse communities, including businesses, and public and private agencies. Demonstrated ability to teach distance education courses. Demonstrated leadership experience developing curriculum at the upper division level including program and course assessment, articulation to other campuses, program development, and updates. Demonstrated teaching experience at the upper division level. Teaching experience at the community college or higher levels. Experience with accreditation process. Ability to work with students of varied ages and skill levels. Leadership experience within alternative energy industry. Instructor, CC: All of these desirable qualifications required for Assistant Professor AND one year or more of effective performance at the Instructor level or equivalent, which includes experience in curriculum development.
